The NBA has fined Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid $75,000 for making obscene gestures in the first half of their Christmas Day win against the Boston Celtics.
The NBA's official press release announced that Embiid was fined for "making obscene gestures on the playing court" during the game. Although the release didn't specify the exact gestures, reports suggest that Embiid performed the "DX crotch chop" gesture, a move he borrowed from professional wrestling and has been fined for in the past. Additionally, he made another obscene gesture towards Boston fans following a three-pointer late in the second quarter.
This latest fine adds to Embiid's growing list of on-court disciplinary problems, including technical fouls and altercations. Notably, Embiid was recently suspended for three games for shoving Philadelphia Inquirer columnist Marcus Hayes.
Despite the fine, Embiid shone in the game, scoring 27 points and grabbing 9 rebounds, guiding the 76ers to a 118-114 victory.
This incident underscores the need for Embiid to maintain higher sportsmanship and professionalism during play.
