The essence of Major League Baseball is alive in the Battery as Truist Park hosts the 95th Midsummer Classic, the 2025 MLB All-Star Game presented by Mastercard. This event transcends a mere exhibition; it is a meaningful convergence of baseball's rich history, its dynamic present, and a glimpse into its technological future, all set in a city with a profound connection to its most celebrated legend.

The date, 7/15, holds significant meaning in Atlanta, reminiscent of the iconic "44" eternally associated with Henry Aaron. It was during the 44th week of 2021, the year of his passing, that the Braves secured the World Series. Now, his spirit will imbue the All-Star celebrations, culminating in an innovative, in-game tribute to his legendary 715th home run. Through advanced projection mapping and custom pyrotechnics, fans will experience a digital recreation of Aaron's historic blast, a fitting tribute to Hammerin' Hank.

Current Conquerors Take the Field

While legends are honored, it's the game's contemporary stars who comprise the National League and American League rosters. In a nod to cherished tradition, players will proudly wear their familiar regular-season uniforms, a departure from the specially designed All-Star attire of recent years.

Beyond the star power, this year's showcase will also offer a clear window into baseball's technological advancements. The Automated Ball-Strike (ABS) challenge system will be available for both squads, marking its most prominent usage yet on such a grand stage.

    Starting Pitcher: Tarik Skubal (Tigers)

(Note: José Ramírez (CLE) was elected as the AL's starting third baseman but has opted out.)

Two exceptional pitchers will take the mound for the starting roles. Tarik Skubal, the reigning American League Cy Young Award winner from the Detroit Tigers, will start the All-Star Game for the AL, marking the first time a Tigers pitcher has done so since Max Scherzer in 2013. For the NL, Paul Skenes of the Pittsburgh Pirates will make his second consecutive start in the All-Star Game, becoming the youngest pitcher to accomplish this achievement.

Managers, Mentors, and More

Leading the star-studded teams will be two World Series-winning managers: Dave Roberts of the reigning champion Dodgers for the NL, marking his fourth All-Star managerial appearance, and Aaron Boone of the defending AL champion Yankees, making his debut at the Midsummer Classic. Legendary Yankees manager Joe Torre and Guardians manager Stephen Vogt will act as honorary coaches for the AL, while Braves manager Brian Snitker and Marlins manager Clayton McCullough will serve in honorary roles for the NL.

The All-Star Evolution: From Jerseys to Challenges

In a much-anticipated nod to tradition, players will wear their teams' primary home and away jerseys during the game, a classic style that was standard from the 1930s until 2019. Nonetheless, fans will still see the special All-Star jerseys during the Gatorade All-Star Workout Day and the T-Mobile Home Run Derby on July 14.

This event marks the inaugural use of the automated ball-strike (ABS) challenge system in the All-Star Game, powered by T-Mobile’s 5G network. Operating under rules tested in Spring Training, each team begins with two challenges. Successful challenges are retained, and only pitchers, catchers, or hitters can initiate a challenge by tapping their cap or helmet, without any assistance from the dugout. MLB has been diligently testing ABS in the Minor Leagues since 2021, with the challenge system specifically in use since 2022.

Atlanta's All-Star Legacy

This marks the third occasion Atlanta has hosted the Midsummer Classic, with the first being in the lively Battery area near Truist Park. The city previously hosted the All-Stars in 2000, a game won by the AL, highlighted by Yankees legend Derek Jeter's memorable MVP performance and Braves icon Chipper Jones's spirited three-hit game, including a home run. The 1972 All-Star Game in Atlanta saw the NL win with a walk-off single, but its most memorable moment was Henry Aaron's go-ahead homer in the sixth inning, a legendary moment that will be revisited tonight. The Boston Braves hosted the game in 1936, and the Milwaukee Braves in 1955, when Stan Musial's 12th-inning walk-off homer secured an NL victory.

Historically, the American League holds the overall lead in the All-Star Game series (48 wins, 44 losses, 2 ties) and has largely dominated in recent decades, losing only seven times since 1988 and just four times since 1997. After a 13-game unbeaten streak from 1997-2009 and a brief three-game losing streak (2010-2012), the AL has reclaimed its dominance, winning 10 of the past 11 contests.

Fan Participation and Special Moments

Fans remain a crucial part of the All-Star experience. After the fifth inning, voting opens for the Ted Williams All-Star Game MVP Award presented by Chevrolet. Fans can cast their votes at MLB.com and through club sites, with their voice accounting for 20 percent of the official MVP determination.

Beyond the game itself, several special moments are planned. Some of MLB's top stars will be mic'd up at various points, offering live conversations with the FOX Sports booth. Former Braves greats Chipper Jones, Andruw Jones, and Andrés Galarraga, all All-Stars when Atlanta last hosted in 2000, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch. Following this, Eva J., the Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s 2025-26 Southeast Youth of the Year and a Spelman College student, will deliver the game ball to the mound. Additionally, 11-time All-Star Clayton Kershaw, recently honored as a “Legend Pick” by Commissioner Rob Manfred after his 3,000th career strikeout, will also be part of the festivities.

How to Catch the Action

The 95th Midsummer Classic will be televised nationally by FOX Sports in the United States, with Spanish language coverage provided by FOX Deportes. Canadian viewers can tune in via Rogers Sportsnet and TDA Sports, and international partners will broadcast the game in over 200 countries worldwide.

As the best of baseball converges in Atlanta, the 2025 All-Star Game is poised to be an unforgettable showcase of talent, technology, and timeless tradition.
