After a short break, the Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to Las Vegas, officially paving the way for UFC Vegas 108. The main event is confirmed and set, though the weigh-ins encountered some issues, with two fighters on the preliminary card missing their weight targets.
The headlining bout of the evening, taking place at the UFC Apex, will feature a flyweight clash between rising stars Tatsuro Taira and Hyun Sung Park. Both fighters successfully made weight, paving the way for their five-round showdown. However, the rest of the card saw a couple of fighters miss their weight limits. Tresean Gore exceeded the middleweight limit by 3.5 pounds, coming in at 189.5 pounds for his fight against Rodolfo Vieira (185). Similarly, Rafael Estevam came in at 130 pounds, surpassing the 126-pound flyweight cap for his matchup with Felipe Bunes (125). As a result of their misses, both Gore and Estevam have been fined 25% of their purses. Despite the weight issues, both preliminary bouts are still scheduled to proceed.
Main Event Spotlight: Taira vs. Park
The main event signifies the third time 25-year-old Taira (16-1) will headline a UFC fight. The Japanese fighter, weighing in at 126 pounds, is eager to recover from the first loss of his professional career, a close split decision against Brandon Royval. Prior to this defeat, Taira had made a name for himself as a formidable contender in the division with notable TKO wins over Alex Perez and Carlos Hernandez.
Facing Taira is Hyun Sung Park, poised for the most significant fight of his career. The 29-year-old fighter from South Korea enters his first UFC main event with an unblemished 10-0 record. Park, who also weighed in at 126 pounds, has recently made waves in the flyweight division with commanding victories over Hernandez and Shannon Ross, solidifying his reputation as a top prospect to watch.
UFC Vegas 108 will be broadcast in its entirety on ESPN and ESPN+ this Saturday. The preliminary card will kick off at 6 p.m. ET / 3 p.m. PT, with the main card following at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT.
