As NFL teams prepare for Week 2 matchups, a wave of key injuries is set to impact games across the league. From star defenders to key offensive playmakers, a number of teams will be forced to adapt on the fly.

Bills and Cowboys Lose Defensive Anchors

The Buffalo Bills' defense, fresh off a thrilling comeback win, will be without a key component on Sunday against the New York Jets. All-Pro defensive tackle Ed Oliver has been ruled out with an ankle injury he suffered in practice. Oliver's absence is a significant blow, as he was a game-changer in Week 1, forcing a key fumble that sparked the Bills' comeback. His injury leaves the Bills thin at the position, putting pressure on their depth players.

In Dallas, the Cowboys' secondary has taken a major hit. All-Pro cornerback DaRon Bland has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the New York Giants with a foot injury. The injury, which is unrelated to the stress fracture he suffered last season, comes just after Bland signed a lucrative $92 million extension. While the team doesn't believe the injury is severe enough for him to land on injured reserve, his absence creates a significant hole in the Cowboys' defense, especially with Giants' young star Malik Nabers on the opposing sideline.

Other Notable Injuries Across the League

  • Green Bay Packers: Wide receiver Jayden Reed will undergo surgery for a fractured collarbone he sustained in Thursday's win over the Commanders. He is expected to be out until November.

  • Kansas City Chiefs: The Chiefs will be without a key offensive weapon as wide receiver Jalen Royals is ruled out with a knee injury. Wide receiver Xavier Worthy, who dislocated his shoulder in Week 1, is doubtful for the game but has a "slim" chance of playing.

  • Minnesota Vikings: Star offensive tackle Christian Darrisaw (knee) has been ruled out for Sunday night's game against the Falcons, as has linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel (concussion).

  • New York Giants: All-Pro offensive tackle Andrew Thomas is doubtful to play with a foot injury, a huge blow to a Giants offensive line looking to protect quarterback Russell Wilson.

  • Washington Commanders: Defensive end Deatrich Wise Jr. has suffered a season-ending quad injury that will require surgery, according to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. This is a major loss for the Commanders' defensive front.
