Jonah Tong Shines in Historic MLB Debut as Mets Offense Explodes

Tong, the Mets' fourth-ranked prospect, showcased the elite stuff that fast-tracked him to the majors. Using a mid-90s fastball, a "Vulcan" changeup, and a sharp curveball, he kept Marlins hitters at bay, racking up six strikeouts over five innings. He allowed four runs, with only one earned, making him just the second Mets rookie aged 22 or younger to go five or more innings with one or fewer earned runs in a debut, joining the legendary Dwight Gooden.

"That's everything I ever dreamed of as a kid growing up," Tong said after the game.

While Tong's performance was impressive, the Mets' offense made his debut a stress-free affair. The team scored 19 runs, setting a new franchise record for the most runs in a home game. Juan Soto, Brandon Nimmo, and Luis Torrens all went deep, with Nimmo hitting two home runs.
