Ohio State 34, Notre Dame 23
The Ohio State Buckeyes have claimed the national championship once more! In a thrilling College Football Playoff title game, the Buckeyes (14-2, 7-2 Big Ten) triumphed over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (14-2) with a score of 34-23, capturing their first title since 2014 and the ninth in the program's history.
A powerful second-quarter performance drove the Buckeyes to victory. They unleashed a 21-point surge, highlighted by running back Quinshon Judkins' three touchdowns, gaining a commanding 31-7 advantage midway through the third quarter.
The Fighting Irish were determined not to give up easily. They mounted a second-half comeback, with Greathouse's remarkable one-handed touchdown catch bringing them within reach with less than five minutes left.
However, as Notre Dame needed a critical stop, quarterback Will Howard delivered a decisive pass to wide receiver Jeremiah Smith on a go-route, securing a first down and setting up Jaden Fielding's game-sealing field goal. The Buckeye sideline erupted in celebration, knowing the championship was within their reach.
Howard, named the game's MVP, was outstanding, completing 17 of 21 passes for 231 yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing for 57 yards.
"This is an incredible feeling," said an overjoyed Howard. "We fought hard all season, and to finish it off like this is a dream come true."
The Buckeyes' path to glory was filled with challenges. They navigated a tough playoff bracket, overcoming No. 7 Tennessee, avenging a regular-season loss to No. 1 Oregon, and narrowly defeating No. 3 Texas.
With this victory, head coach Ryan Day joins the prestigious ranks of Ohio State coaching legends Urban Meyer, Jim Tressel, Woody Hayes, and Paul Brown, who have led the Buckeyes to a national championship.
"This is for our players, our coaches, and all of Buckeye Nation," said Day. "This team showed incredible resilience and determination all season long. I couldn't be prouder of them."
The victory sparked a joyous celebration on the field and in the stands, as a sea of scarlet and gray erupted in cheers. Confetti rained down as the Buckeyes lifted the championship trophy, etching their names into college football history.
