The Chicago Bears are casting a wide net in their search for a new head coach, and they're set to interview a legendary figure in Pete Carroll on Thursday.
NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported that the Bears will meet with Carroll, who coached the Seattle Seahawks from 2010 to 2023. Carroll stepped down as head coach last season but has consistently hinted at a potential return to the sidelines.
"I could coach tomorrow," Carroll stated in August. "I'm physically in the best shape I've been in a long time. I'm ready to do all the activities I'm doing and feeling really good about it. I could, but I'm not desiring it at this point."
Carroll's potential return would bring a wealth of experience and a winning pedigree to a Bears franchise desperate for stability. In 14 seasons with the Seahawks, he compiled a 137-89-1 record, leading them to 10 playoff appearances and two Super Bowl appearances, culminating in a victory in Super Bowl XLVIII.
Carroll is not the only experienced head coach on the Bears' radar. The team previously requested to interview Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy, but the Cowboys denied the request, citing their exclusive negotiating window with McCarthy, which extends until January 14th.
The Bears are clearly exploring all avenues in their search for the right leader to guide the franchise back to contention. Carroll's potential arrival would undoubtedly generate significant excitement and could signal a new era of success for the storied franchise.
