The San Francisco 49ers' wide receiver corps, already thinned by injuries and contract disputes, has taken another hit with the news that newly acquired wideout Demarcus Robinson is facing a three-game suspension.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed the expected suspension Wednesday on KNBR radio, stating that the team is "planning for" Robinson to miss the first three games of the 2025 season. While Robinson's discipline is still in the appeals process, the team is bracing for his absence.

The suspension stems from a misdemeanor driving under the influence (DUI) charge from November of last year, when Robinson was a member of the Los Angeles Rams. The 30-year-old subsequently pleaded no contest to the charge, a first-offense DUI that typically results in a three-game ban.

The timing could not be worse for the 49ers. The team's receiving room is already a MASH unit. Star receiver Brandon Aiyuk is recovering from a season-ending knee injury and is not expected to return until at least Week 6. Jauan Jennings is currently sidelined with a calf injury and is also reportedly seeking a new contract, while rookies Jordan Watkins and Jacob Cowing are also dealing with injuries.

In response to the growing crisis at the position, the 49ers have already made a move. On Wednesday, they traded a 2027 sixth-round pick to the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for wide receiver Skyy Moore and a 2027 seventh-round pick. Moore, a former second-round pick of the Chiefs, will provide a much-needed healthy body for the team's offense.

If the suspension is upheld, Robinson will miss the 49ers' season opener on September 7 against the Seattle Seahawks, a Week 2 matchup with the New Orleans Saints, and the home opener against the Arizona Cardinals on September 21. He would be eligible to return in Week 4 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Robinson, who signed a two-year, $9.5 million deal with San Francisco this offseason, is a veteran heading into his 10th NFL season. He had a career year with the Rams last season, hauling in 31 receptions for 505 yards and seven touchdowns. His absence, however, will further test a team already facing significant challenges in its passing attack as the regular season approaches.
